Managing director of UniCredit Group since its birth in 1998 and one of the main protagonists of Italian-German banking aggregation with the HypoVereinsbank Group.
Profumo began his career as a banker at Banco Lariano, where he worked from 1977 to 1987.
From 1987 to 1989 he worked at McKinsey, where he managed strategic and organizational projects for finance companies, and then went on to Bain, Cuneo & Associati.
In 1991 he left consulting for RAS, where he was chief director for the banking and parabanking sector.
In 1994 he started working at Credito Italiano, where he was appointed managing director in 1997.
Since December 2005 he has been the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of HVB and of Bank Austria Creditanstalt. He is a member of many boards, including that of Università Bocconi.
